Country Legend Loretta Lynn’s Grandson and His 5 Dogs Love The Landing on Lake Grapevine

Country music legend Loretta Lynn had 26 grandkids. It’s not surprising that at least one of them ended up in Texas. While it’s interesting that her grandson Ethan Lyell chose to renovate a home in the gated community of The Landing on Lake Grapevine, it’s not why people are going to love this English Manor house. Nope. It’s the dog house.

Yes, you need to feel bad your dog does not have multi-level living!

Well, that and some pretty extraordinary things Lyell did to this home, like installing a Tesla solar shingle roof. I know, right? We all hate those big, ugly solar panels, and here’s the solution: solar shingles. But let’s get back to that dog house.

Lyell and his partner have two Jack Russels, Rufus and Lucas, two Dachshunds, Eli and Lilly, and Winter, the Great Pyrenees. Yes, five dogs. These are people I already know I like. The fact they built an interior space dedicated to their pups means we could easily be best friends. Each pupper has its own blankie and pillow, a view to the outside, and, you guessed it, a television. That’s love.

What a transformation!

Oh, and the house is pretty impressive as well. I had a chat with the interior designers, Chelle Brookley and Meghan West of Vignette Custom Interiors, who took this home from dated to innovative. They had their work cut out for them because it was built in 1998. The 10,180-square-foot home with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms had all the perks we wanted in the 1990s, including heavily troweled walls, faux finishes, and everyone’s late ‘90s fave, the dark wood-paneled study. According to multiple sources, it took $5.5 million to bring it up to speed, and boy, did they!

“The transformation was amazing,” Brookley said. There were several owner requests for their home at The Landing on Lake Grapevine, of course. They wanted an immediate wow factor when you enter, so Brookley and West removed a wall, added a gorgeous wallpaper from floor to ceiling, and found a gigantic chandelier that is a showstopper. But the great thing about good clients is they listen.

“They wanted a home that was luxurious but comfortable, and they were open to all of our suggestions,” Brookley said. “The whole house is a play on different hues of blue.”

To give away some designer secrets, the study is painted in Benjamin Moore Flint, and the dramatic blue guest room is covered in York Wallcoverings Shining Sisal in navy. It’s hard to imagine this beautiful home is dog-proof, but it is.

“With five dogs, we had to be cognizant of everything we installed,” West said.

Among the many tricks of the trade, they used a lot of performance velvets that are pup-proof.

There was a bit of demo involved in removing a back staircase to double the upstairs office size and an entertainment center was removed so a wall of windows could be added in the great room to bring in more light.

The kitchen was originally that fancy country French style we all adored in the late 1990s.

“We used the base cabinets and changed out the doors in the kitchen,” Brookley said. “You can achieve so much without demolishing a home.”

They removed a brick wall, added two islands, and used Benjamin Moore’s Blue Note on the cabinetry. You’d never realize this was the same kitchen. Take a look at the before and after photos!

But that dog house, well, dog room … Not only does each pup have its own space, but there is also a dedicated dog shower in the laundry room with glass doors and two gorgeous, heavily treed acres to run around on.

Winter says it’s time for bed.

So we have a pretty house on a gorgeous piece of land, but you know there’s more. Not only do you get that fantastic Tesla shingle roof, but there is also a Control 4 smart home system and six Carrier HVAC units for energy efficiency. The designers took advantage of an extra garage space and converted it into a workout room, adding doors to a zen garden.

You can easily see why this is a puppy paradise. The Landing on Lake Grapevine property is essentially a park. Even the former tennis court was remade into a farm-to-table gardening area. There are plenty of areas to entertain, a fabulous pool, and loads of space to play fetch, so really, what more could you ask for? Oh, maybe robot mowers? You can check that off your list, as they are already in the front and back yards.

If it were not for finding the perfect estate in Scotland, Lyell and the pups would not be leaving, but, hey, it’s Scotland after all.

The Landing on Lake Grapevine property is at 2005 Bayshore Drive in Flower Mound and is represented by Damon and Melissa Williamson of the Williamson Group at The Agency Dallas, Park Cities. It’s listed for $6.95 million, and the house can be sold fully furnished with additional pricing. So there you have it — move-in ready for people AND doggos, and all you need are your suitcases!

You are really in luck because there is an open house today from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
