MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – A Madison County man, Wesley Keyser, has been arrested for animal cruelty after 45 dogs and four horses were found in “deplorable conditions”, according to Sheriff Randy Tucker.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was notified Thursday about issues regarding animal cruelty.
Law enforcement arrived at the location within minutes of receiving the call and found 45 dogs and four horses who were suffering from malnutrition and were not being provided any cover from the weather.
The animals have been taken to the Webster Animal Shelter in Madison where they are being cared for by several veterinarians.
The shelter’s goal is to re-home them after they receive care.
Sheriff Tucker stated, “Keyser will be charged with animal cruelty for each animal that was removed from the premises.”
Tucker concluded, “The dogs and horses were living in deplorable conditions, and it is our hope they will be matched with new owners. For those who hurt our animals, beware that we will take every legal measure to make sure you pay the price for hurting the defenseless. This will never be tolerated in Madison County. Keyser, a former detention employee (employee for about nine months), was arrested and terminated from his job at the scene.”
