UTICA, N.Y. — Scrolling through Facebook during some rare downtime, Kevin Malachowski’s eye saw something his heart couldn’t forget.
“I saw 700,000 views, and I read it a little deeper, and it said he’s been there a whole year. So, a lot of times, people can afford a dog, but they can’t afford a fence,” said Malachowski.
You can probably guess where this is going.
“We do a lot of fences for dogs, animals of all kind, so it’s just a good fit. Something we can do relatively quickly,” said Malachowski.
The Gateway Fence Systems owner, operating from Clinton, is offering to donate a 200-foot black chain link fence enclosure, installed, to someone who adopts Oliver, a five-year-old, roughly 45-pound terrier mix, by the end of the week.
“He’s a great dog…..he loves people,” said Tori Risucci, creative content manager at Anita’s Stevens Swan Humane Society. “He likes to just keep to himself and check things out.”
Oliver is good with dogs his size or bigger, not so great with cats or small dogs. He’s done well interacting with children, at shelter events.
The community is rallying around him.
Countless people have offered to sponsor the dog’s adoption fees. His shelter family hopes the fencing offer will help attract his forever family.
“We posted him. He has close to a million views, still nothing. Then Gateway commenting really kinda like drove things up. It’s a really generous offer,” said Risucci. “It’s the push I think he really needs.”
