LEXINGTON, N.C. — Dating back to October 10, Lexington Police were alerted to a dead dog in a backyard on Williamson Street.
After officers arrived on scene, they found the reported dead animal inside a small fenced in area.
Responders say they found five dogs total inside this enclosure, including another one that was dead.
Police retrieved the dogs were under pressing circumstances and took them to the Davidson County Animal Shelter. A third dog did die within the shelter.
On Friday, suspect Jamal Moore, 48, was arrested and charged with three counts of felony kill an animal by starvation, two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty, and five counts of animal abandonment.
Moore was taken to the Davidson County Jail and held under no bond allowed, he will appear in Lexington District Court on November 14.

Police also carried out a warranted search of Moore’s home on Saturday. Investigators say they found another dog inside, that was also taken to the Davidson County Animal Shelter.
Officers say this investigation remains ongoing.
