The Vanderburgh Humane Society has taken in several animals from areas affected by the recent hurricanes.
Last Friday, 21 dogs and 16 cats traveled from a Tampa, Florida shelter.
The arrival was possible due to coordination between multiple organizations, such as Wings of Rescue.
The animals need time to decompress before they will be available for adoption.
A week before the animals arrived, VHS created more space by holding an adoption event.
Over 200 animals went to new homes.
