8 of the Happiest Dog Breeds with Positive Personalities

While all dogs are a joy to be around, some breeds are well-known for their non-stop wagging tails and positive personalities.

“Dog ownership has many benefits, including improving their human counterpart’s mental well-being. While a dog’s behaviors and attitude depend on its training, socialization and individual personality, many pedigree breeds are also known for their typical friendly character,” a spokesperson from The Kennel Club tells Country Living.

“Crowned as the UK’s favourite breed for decades, Labrador Retrievers are famous for their positive personality and eagerness to make their owners smile,” the team tell us.

“They are a versatile breed and because of this, alongside their friendly nature, they make great assistance dogs, including work as guide and therapy dogs.”

Cocker Spaniels are notoriously known for their waggy tail and happy temperament. Their merry nature is hard to resist, making them one of the most popular breeds with owners across the UK. Despite their often relentless energy, Cocker Spaniels are gentle and affectionate dogs that shower their owners with devotion.”

4. Irish Setter

“Irish Setters are known for their agility and tremendous energy. Originally bred as gundogs, Irish Setters still enjoy active exercise and exploring new territories. They are a good choice for really quite active owners, especially those who enjoy running or hiking. Irish Setters are very affectionate dogs, too.”

5. English Setter

Are you thinking of adopting an English Setter? Bill explains: “As well as being very active, the English Setter is also known to be outgoing and good-natured. Sadly, despite their lovable character, they have seen their population numbers decline, placing them on The Kennel Club’s Vulnerable Native breed list. Whilst they love affection, they are a large breed so require an owner that can provide them with a lot of exercise, and a large home and garden.”

6. Boxer

“Boxers are affectionate, loyal and family-oriented dogs that also have a fearless character. Despite their confident looks, Boxers also have almost clown-like side to them and they are very friendly-natured.”

7. Bichon Frise

“Bichon Frise is a small dog with big and happy personality. Despite their cuddly looks, Bichons are lively and outgoing dogs that enjoy spending time with their owners. Their friendly personality and affection they show to their owners, made them into a popular show dog as well as a family companion.”

8. Smooth Collie

“The Smooth Collie is a strong and intelligent dog, originally bred to manage sheep, and still enjoy spending time outside. They are a sociable and energetic breed so need active, outdoorsy owners,” says Bill.

“The Smooth Collie is another breed that is sadly classed as a vulnerable native breed, despite their endearing nature. Smooth Collies are also agile and active dogs that excel in canine sports like agility. They tend to have seemingly endless energy that they love to burn out on long walks.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
