ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Two people and two dogs were killed in a Roswell apartment fire at the Champions Green Apartment Complex on Saturday around 4 a.m., officials said.
Fire crews found the two victims inside the affected apartment after a search and rescue operation. They were taken to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. Two dogs were also found dead inside the apartment, officials say.
After an investigation from the Roswell Fire Department, Roswell Police Department and the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire was determined to be an accident caused by unattended cooking.
The fire also impacted two neighboring units and displaced six residents, all of which were offered Red Cross assistance, according to officials.
“Our deepest sympathies are with the families affected by this devastating loss,” said Roswell Fire Chief Joe Pennino. “This tragedy is a reminder of how quickly accidents can happen. We encourage everyone to take simple precautions when cooking to help prevent future tragedies.”
