MARIETTA, OH. (WTAP) – Put on by Marietta Main Street, the Dachshund Derby was an exciting way to get other dachshunds around and meeting new friends.
Bobbi McDonald, a organizer on the planning committee, was thrilled about the turnout of the derby.
“For the first event, we’re super ecstatic about the turn-out and everybody here just supporting each other to bring their wiener dogs out,”
The day started out with a parade from the Armory to Muskingum Park and back with hundreds of dachshunds on display for the public to see.
After the parade, the races began with them being raced by their age level.
“Molly’s pretty fast,” said Kynzlee Taylor talking about her dog. “Let’s just say she’s faster than a jack russell.”
“Just seeing all the dogs is my favorite part,” said Rylee Wolfe, “I think they’re all so cute, and they’ll be good at racing.”
McDonald adds it’s also great for the community to all come out.
“Being able to collaborate with other folks and get everybody together and really fun,” McDonald said.
