‘Vicious dogs’ in the neighborhood

In our neighborhood, we have an irresponsible neighbor with three vicious dogs that come toward people barking with teeth bared.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office, which includes animal control for unincorporated Platte County, has done nothing to ensure the neighbors will not be attacked or injured.

Last week, three dogs opened a chain link fence gate according to the owner and charged toward two adults, a six-month-old baby in a stroller and a dog on a leash being held by one of the adults. No amount of yelling stopped the dogs from surrounding the people on three sides until a few minutes later when the owner called several times to the dogs before the dogs returned to their fenced yard.

These dogs have injured another neighbor’s dog so badly it had to be euthanized; the owner’s dog was in his yard and not barking before being attacked.

Another time, a neighbor tried to avoid the charging dogs by climbing into a pickup. The dogs have threatened other people while walking; these are a few examples of multiple dangerous incidences with these dangerous dogs. Yet, the sheriff’s office will not do anything to the owner or dogs to make it safe to walk or be in the yards.

We would like the sheriff’s office to take action, more than talking to the owner. We want to keep our neighborhood safe for people of all ages and pets. The sheriff’s office needs to be proactive to the problem instead of reactive after an incident; and, many times, the sheriff’s office will not return calls regarding the incident when requested.
