Dog That Has Been on the Streets for Over 8 Months Is Finally Saved By Rescue Group

A dog in Missouri has been rescued after being on the streets for over eight months.

On Sunday, Oct. 13, local animal rescue Ozarks Pet Rescue shared on Facebook that they finally caught the dog, named Larry, after multiple attempts.

The rescue posted a health update on the canine the following day, stating that he weighed in at about 22 pounds during his check at Williams Veterinary Clinic and is thought to be three years old.

The Poodle mix got a mostly clean bill of health from the veterinarian with them reporting that he is negative for heartworms and Giardia, but has tick disease and whipworms.

Larry shed two pounds of weight during his makeover, which saw a grooming team shaving his overgrown hair that covered his eyes and was matted.

The canine is still adjusting to being back around people. “He gave our board member a small kisses and belly but is still scared which will take time and patience,” the rescue wrote of the dog’s recovery. “Larry will begin his journey with our trainers after a week or 2 of decompression time!”

According to Ozark Radio News, the dog was captured using a tranquilizer gun after the live traps failed to work. The rescue group had assistance from a person from the local animal control department and 10 volunteers.

After Larry’s trip to the groomers, the rescue shared another update, writing, “This guy is what rescue us about, helping those who need us the most!”

They continued to dispel negative comments about animal rescue and wrote, “We always try to stay neutral and just want the best for all the animals… We don’t need the thanks, these dogs and cats need the praise for surviving until we can have the opportunity to save them!”

The post featured three snaps of Larry outside in his newly shaven form while wearing a red and yellow sweater. He is standing on a dirt path in two of the pictures and is resting in a large animal cage in one of them.

The most recent update from the rescue shares that the dog’s veterinarian care has been completed and he will be starting “his official stray hold,” which typically means they will be searching local databases and other community resources for the dog’s owners.

They wrote that the dog is neutered but does not have a microchip and encouraged the owner to reach out to them with verification.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
