NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) – A popular two-day dog race returned to Negaunee Township Park on Saturday.
The eighth annual UP200 Dryland dog race featured over 100 dog racers.
Racers compete using wheeled rigs, scooter and bikes while having between one and six dogs per team competing on a two-mile loop.
The event’s head organizer, Meg Holeva, says it’s completely accessible to everyone.
“You can have one dog and a bike, and you can race, it doesn’t even matter the breed, we got German short-haired pointers, we got the Nordic breeds that you see when you think of sled dogs,” Holeva said. “We also have a hard-border collie dog running, so any dog that wants to pull can and any person that wants to try can.”
After Sunday, the times will be totaled to determine the winner who will receive a cash prize.
