Police in East Hempfield Township are investigating a case of two dogs being poisoned, one fatally.
Officers responded Wednesday, Sept. 25, to a home in the 3000 block of Todd Lane for a harassment complaint. The person who contacted police reported someone poisoned their dogs and left nails in their driveway.
The resident said that after they let their two dogs − a Newfoundland and a spaniel mix − into their fenced backyard that morning, they noticed them eating a “frozen chunk” of some sort of substance, police said.
After the resident brought the dogs back inside, the dogs became lethargic and started vomiting, police said. The resident took the dogs to a veterinary clinic; the spaniel recovered, but the Newfoundland died.
The clinic that treated the dogs wasn’t able to conclusively determine what substance the dogs ingested, police said.
When the resident returned home later that day, they discovered nails scatted throughout the driveway, police said. Police said there was another incident on Sept. 20, 2024, when the resident reported finding nails in the driveway.
