HOLLAND — There’s a new local business partnership in place at 202 S. River Ave. in Holland.
The former Superior Sport, for some time, has been solely occupied by Photo Images by Carl. Now, the studio will share the space with another small business — Bubs’ and Betty’s.
For store owners Veejay and Heather Gahir, it’s a journey that goes full circle. The couple first met in Holland over 25 years ago.
The couple eventually ended up in Milford, outside of Detroit. Bubs’ and Betty’s wasn’t always their store, but they fell in love with it before deciding to move back to West Michigan in 2021, a year after Decadent Dogs closed its storefront on River Avenue in Holland.
The gift shop, in part, focuses on dogs, their owners and people who love them. It sells dog-themed apparel, dog collars and bandanas, and dog toys and treats.
“One of the first things we said was ‘Gosh, downtown Holland could really do with a place for people who love dogs,’” Heather told The Sentinel.
“There are so many dogs and people out there with their dogs — so after a few years of thinking that, we reached out to the original owners to see if they would be willing to sell it to us so we could set up (Bubs’ and Betty’s) in Holland.”
The first challenge was finding a location. It was the couple’s first business venture, and they didn’t want to overcommit. Enter Photo Images by Carl owner Carl Caylor, who moved his own business to Holland in 2023.
Caylor was more than willing to share his new space on River Avenue.
“We are all very excited to share our love of the K-9 community,” he wrote on social media.

Bubs’ and Betty’s is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays-Wednesdays, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursdays-Fridays and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays.
“The community has been so supportive,” Heather said. “It’s been great. People that have come into the shop and everyone has said this is amazing and really what they were looking for.”
