Dog attack kills man in Albany

A 59-year-old Schenectady man was killed in Albany on Wednesday afternoon when he was attacked by several mixed-breed pit bulls in the backyard of a home on Central Avenue, Albany police said.

Officers responded to the scene shortly before 6 p.m., finding eight to nine dogs mauling the man, identified as James Provost, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said Thursday at a news conference.

An officer fired his weapon, killing an adult male dog and dispersing the others before receiving assistance from a person at the scene in rounding up the animals and bringing them indoors, according to police, who said there were 24 total dogs at the scene, including 15 puppies.

The dogs are owned by a resident of Cohoes, said police, who did not identify the person.

Police said at the time of the attack, Provost was in the backyard of a home at 594 Central Avenue, located next to where the dogs were being kept at 592 Central Avenue.

No criminal charges had been filed in the case as of Thursday afternoon. Police said they were working with the district attorney on if any criminal charges could apply.

Animal Control and the Humane Society recovered the dogs and brought them to the Humane Society. The dogs were being held pending an investigation, and a judge will decide what happens with them, police said.

Police said they were investigating why there were so many dogs at the home, the role of their owner and other issues related to the deadly incident.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
