Humane Fort Wayne hauls dogs displaced by Hurricane Helene in Maryland

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Humane Fort Wayne has planned a trip to Hagerstown, Maryland, to bring back 20 dogs that were displaced by Hurricane Helene.

The crew of four is partnering with The Humane Society of the United States to rescue animals impacted by the Florida storm.

The dogs previously lived in overflow shelters from Eastern Tennessee and had to be relocated to Maryland for extra space due to the influx of displaced animals.

The crew plans to travel back to Fort Wayne by Friday evening.

Humane Fort Wayne’s newest Leesburg location holds 40 kennels, and officials said the shelter has the capacity to bring in those 20 dogs with open space.

They said community donations, such as toys and treats, are very needed and are bringing what they have for the animals being transported.

During the first weekend of bringing the dogs back to the shelter, HFW leaders say staff will give the dogs the weekend to adjust to the new space.

By next week, they say they will have the dogs processed to get adoption ready.

Updates from crew members on the rescue trip can be found on their Facebook page.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
