‘Chonky’ dog tries to wriggle his way to freedom

He was having a ruff day.

A pleasingly plump Staffordshire Bull Terrier tried to wriggle his way to freedom — but wound up stuck in his owner’s front gate instead.

Stephen Morando, who goes by @papamoandwillow on TikTok, revealed to his followers that he saw the chubby canine’s predicament while driving by — stopping to help the not-so-little terrier.

“Pupper was definitely trying to escape but had a few too many snackos to get his belly between the railings,” Morando told Newsweek.

The one-minute and 11-second clip shows the staffy stuck in the middle — with an American bulldog sitting next to him — for what some could consider emotional support.

“This pupper was bigger than he thought,” Morando joked about the chunky dog online.

The Australia man couldn’t help but notice the chunky black and white dog stuffed like a sausage between the metal bars.

“Not believing what I’d just seen, I hit the brakes and backed up,” he added. “I don’t think anyone would have believed me if I didn’t get it on camera.”

Morando noticed half of the hound’s body was out of the gate while his backside was still behind the fence.

Although Morando rushed over to help the unlucky animal, the pup seemed unbothered by what seemed to be a re-occurring issue — judging by the bent bars.

The Good Samaritan was able to push the dog back behind the gate. However, the precocious pet can be seen instantly making yet another escape attempt.

After enough convincing, Morando was able to get the dog to stay back long enough to pull the bars back together, eliminating any possibility of the pooch escaping.

The video circulated with over 327,000 pairs of eyeballs — among them the boundary-defying Bull’s owners.

They were quick to extend their gratitude to the kind stranger.

“Thank you so much. We recently moved in and he’s just started doing this. We have no idea how he’s getting past his shoulders, the chubba chub. Legend,” they praised.

Many people online found the scenario hysterical.

“The dog being absolutely zero help at all,” chuckled a watcher.

“Seems like a good way to get people to stop for pats if you ask me,” added another.

“Clearly not his first rodeo — look at the bend in all those bars,” a TikToker commented.

“Not all heroes wear capes so they say, good on ya mate,” applauded a man.

“He’s a Staffy. They’re all chonky,” laughed another. “Thank you for helping him.”

The would-be escapee isn’t the first overweight pet trying to make a run for it to make global news headlines lately.

Previously reported by The Post, a 38-pound Russian rescue cat named Crumbs wound up jammed in a shoe rack while trying to escape fat camp — his cute face smooshed into a pair of Crocs.

“He was extremely displeased when we found him disguised as slippers, but… after a portion of food, he mellowed out,” Crumbs’ carer revealed.

The fleeing feline was discovered by shelter staff attempting to dodge his strict diet and workout regimen, Newsflash reported.

Crumbs’ ill-fated escape attempt was actually a good sign, they said — it demonstrated that he’s a “very active guy.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
