Neighbors run into burning home, save woman, several dogs

A teenager and his stepfather ran into a burning home early Monday morning and rescued a woman and her dogs.The fire happened around 5 a.m. on the 100 block of East Chestnut Street near Grape Alley in Ephrata Borough. When the neighbors heard the fire alarm, they went inside. A 17-year-old picked up the woman who lived there and carried her out. The teen and his stepfather then went back inside to rescue several dogs.The 17-year-old neighbor and the resident, who was the only person inside at the time of the fire, were both taken to the hospital. The teen suffered burns to his face and arms. It’s not clear how the woman was injured. Around 12 crews responded to the early morning blaze. Most of the damage was contained to the second floor. It’s not yet clear how the fire started.
