Some dog owners spend years waiting for the perfect pup to come into their lives, but others know immediately when they find the dog for them. When I met both of my rescue dogs (13 years apart), I was drawn to them the moment I saw them. The canine distribution system works in mysterious ways, but the signs that led me to my pups couldn’t have been clearer.
It’s safe to say that dog dad Monte was led to his girls just as clearly. The army serviceman met his oldest dog, Dorka, while deployed in Afghanistan. She served as an explosive detection dog and went home with Monte during her retirement four years later. He was paired with a new canine coworker on his more recent deployment, though, and he knew what he had to do when Mane also retired.
On October 2, the proud dog owner shared a video of the military veterans meeting for the first time, and it’s safe to say that the girls are going to be the perfect pair of sisters!
Welcome home, Mane, and thank you for your service! The happy dog looks like she could be Dorka’s biological sister, and considering they even shared the same job alongside their dad, they already have so much in common!

Although a few viewers expressed hesitation over the way the new dog met her sister (the car isn’t the ideal place for dogs to meet for the first time), even more understand the deep bond they already have.
A commenter named Alexandria shared, “These dogs aren’t just normal dogs and are highly trained to not be reactive, or else they would not have been able to work in the field they did.” You’re right! Military dogs often have to work alongside other pups, and it’s essential for everyone’s safety that they follow obedience training and commands in high-pressure situations. These are two good girls!
The Sleek and Muscular Malinois
Many dog breeds can be successful working in the military, but the Belgian Malinois is one of the most popular choices. They’re often seen as police dogs, guard dogs, and even livestock guardian dogs, but even pet Belgian Malinois will love having a job to do.
In fact, these dogs need to stay busy in order to stay out of trouble! They need lots of space to run, sniff, and play, but only a combination of physical and mental stimulation will keep these dogs feeling satisfied. There’s a reason they’re such popular working dogs!
These Shepherd dogs are also affectionate, smart, and fiercely loyal. No matter what kind of family they live with, they’ll prove their love for you in every way they know how!
