What seemed like a harmless joke about a body wrapped in the rug has escalated into a full-scale investigation involving police, cadaver dogs, and internet speculation.

Santry and her boyfriend, Brandon, were digging up their yard to install a fence when they stumbled upon an old rug buried deep in the ground.
While initially strange, they didn’t think much of it. But shortly after the discovery, bizarre things began happening in Santry’s home—her computer screen mysteriously shattered, and items on her desk appeared to have been moved.
That’s when Santry turned to TikTok to share her experience, jokingly asking if the rug’s “ghost” was behind the strange occurrences.

The video quickly went viral, amassing millions of views and igniting a wave of curiosity. Commenters urged Santry to call the police, which led her to make what she described as a “bizarre” call, asking authorities to investigate a buried rug.
When officers first arrived, they didn’t uncover anything unusual and left. However, after more digging (both literal and virtual), and after Santry’s TikTok audience grew more invested, she received a surprising call from the Columbus Police Department’s homicide unit. They wanted to bring in cadaver dogs to search the property.
During the search, both dogs alerted to the area where the rug was located.

As a result, police have now taped off the property and plan to maintain a presence overnight. The investigation is set to continue Friday morning, with Crime Scene Investigators returning to conduct a more thorough examination of the site.
Santry, who was livestreaming when the dogs made their discovery, seemed genuinely overwhelmed by the situation, especially knowing over 100,000 people were watching as the events unfolded. “I never thought this would happen,” she said. Santry was visibly shaking during the livestream and when the dogs alerted she let out an audible gasp.
