Potter League taking dogs from SC Following Hurricane Helene

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, the Potter League for Animals’ longtime partner, the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina, remains without power and will be for the foreseeable future. To help alleviate the shelter’s current challenges, fourteen (14) dogs will be transported to the Potter League in Rhode Island on Thursday morning, October 3, courtesy of  the Friends of the Animal Shelter – Aiken County (FOTAS), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization.
In addition to this transport, FOTAS is working to deliver pet food and other essential supplies to local residents affected by the storm. Due to gas shortages, many people are unable to access much-needed resources, including those for their pets. These efforts are critical in providing relief to both animals and their caretakers during this challenging time.
Since 2012, the Potter League has partnered with Aiken County Animal Shelter to provide critical resources and support for animals in need. The Potter League is also asking the community to step up and assist by donating essential supplies to be sent back with the transport to South Carolina.
The shelter is in urgent need of:
  • Dog beds
  • Dog toys
  • Puppy & adult dog food
Due to the lack of power, they are unable to wash bedding and toys or provide other comforts to the animals. Donations can be dropped off at 87 Oliphant Lane, Middletown to be included in the shipment back to Aiken County. Donations must be received no later than Thursday morning.
“The devastation from Hurricane Helene has hit the Aiken County Animal Shelter especially hard, and we’re doing everything we can to support them during this challenging time. These 14 dogs are just a part of the story – many more animals and people still need our help,” said Brad Shear, Potter League CEO. “We’re incredibly proud of our long-standing partnership with Aiken County Animal Shelter, and now more than ever, they need our support.”
The dogs arriving in Rhode Island will receive necessary medical care, vaccinations, and behavioral assessments before becoming available for adoption.
For those looking to help, donations can be dropped off at 87 Oliphant Lane, Middletown, RI. For more information, please contact the Potter League for Animals at 401-846-8276.
The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
