EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) – Some UW-Eau Claire students got some “paws-on” experience Monday testing how smart dogs really are.
An animal behavior research class at UW-Eau Claire worked with dogs and their owners to study how dogs pick up on human social cues. Students used four different experiments to test the dog’s object permanence and cognitive development.
“After we got him to focus we learned he was pretty good with social cues from humans,” senior Nathan Donovan said. “I’ve never had this opportunity to get hands-on field experience with research, so it’s a great opportunity to get your hands on that.”
This is the second year the animal behavior class has worked with emBARK Dog Daycare to get that hands-on studying experience for students and collect dog intelligence data.
