SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The San Antonio Police Department is putting one of its own on administrative duty after what is being reported as a dog attack on his property.
In a Sunday release, SAPD says three dogs from a neighbor’s backyard broke into the officer’s backyard and attacked his K-9. After trying to separate the dogs, the officer pulled his gun and fired multiple shots.
Two of the attacking dogs were hit and killed, but the K-9 was also shot and later died at a veterinary clinic.
Officers were called to the location in the 9300 block of Lands Point around 12:30 p.m. and soon learned that an officer lived at the address. City of San Antonio Animal Care Services was also called in and the neighbor was later cited for a number of violations.
Multiple investigations are now being undertaken by the SAPD Shooting Team and Internal Affairs Unit.
The officer has 16 years on the force and was off-duty at the time of the reported attack.
