No sign of Lucky the dog after suspect in carjacking is arrested in North Carolina

Police say the dog may have been left at a rest stop in North Carolina.

“I’ve felt so helpless through the whole ordeal. It happened so quickly, and it’s just beyond belief,” said Willard Martz. Martz, 87, had pulled into the parking lot of Tractor Supply in Mount Pleasant Township last Monday morning with his 10-year-old dog, Lucky. He locked Lucky in the car and went inside. Moments later, he says he felt a hand in his pocket and noticed a man, now identified as Kenneth Crider, racing toward the car. Crider then took off with the car and Lucky. “Who in their right mind, after stealing the car, would keep the dog with them?” said Martz. Then, on Saturday, Sept. 28, the Nash County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina arrested Crider. According to deputies, they received a call about a suspicious vehicle. As they attempted to identify Crider, he fled, leading deputies on a vehicle chase that hit speeds in excess of 120 mph. At one point, even striking a deputy vehicle. Crider was arrested and is being held without bond. “We are even more hopeful that Lucky will be found. This is two-thirds of the puzzle, and we need the last piece, and that’s the one that we care about the most,” said Martz’s daughter, Linda Folino. As for Lucky, he’s still missing. Deputies say they have received information that Lucky was likely released at a rest stop off Interstate 95 in North Carolina. And now, one company, J&S Towing in Irwin, has reached out to Lucky’s family, saying this:”If anybody reaches out to them, lets them know they have Lucky, they will go pick Lucky up wherever Lucky is and bring him home to us,” said Folino. There’s also a reward of $2,500 for Lucky’s return.
