The 2024 Political Campaigning in Connecticut Has Gone to the Dogs

Residents of Connecticut’s 8th Senate District: Did your dog got a letter in the mail this week? Mo too. My 6-pound Chihuahua got a letter from a Senator and her dog yesterday. Has the 2024 political election season already gone to the dogs in Connecticut?

Do you pay attention to local politics? I do, to some extent, but I hate campaign season as we’re barraged with e-mails and phone calls from our local candidates running for office. Every phone call is from a political candidate reminding me about why I should vote for them, so I don’t answer it. I was happily sneak-attacked yesterday though by a witty campaign letter from Senator Lisa Seminara of Connecticut’s 8th Senate District.

How did Senator Seminara sneak one past my political goalie? By assuming the mind of her Labradoodle, named Bacon, and presenting reasons why we should vote for ‘Mom’ in the upcoming election.

According to Bacon Seminara, ‘Mom’ Lisa Seminara, who is running for re-election in Connecticut’s 8th Senate District (Avon, BARKhamsted, Canton, Colebrook, Granby, Hartland, Harwinton, New Hartford, Norfolk, Simsbury, and Torrington) has ‘Ferociously growled at frivolous and wasteful spending, ‘co-sponsored a bill that regulates the flow of the Farmington River throughout the 8th District’, and is ‘Working doggone hard for both her two and four-legged constituents’.

You got me Senator Seminara, this was a witty way to make the average person curious enough to open up a piece of mail, which is very tough to do in 2024. Kepp up your hard work, and RayRay will see Bacon sometime soon by Torrington’s beautiful new Rainbow Bridge.

I was born in The Brass City, and now I live in Borington, you know them as Waterbury and Torrington. Both nicknames are a good fit, in my opinion, but some cities and towns in Connecticut have done a much better job, or failed miserably.
