KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — A Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputy shot and killed two dogs that attacked Wednesday morning.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was delivering court paperwork to a home on Monarch Avenue in Post Falls when the homeowner opened the front door and the dogs charged him.

The sheriff’s office said one of the dogs bit the deputy in the leg, and the sheriff’s office fired his gun on the dog that bit him. The deputy shot the other dog, and both dogs died.

The sheriff’s office said the deputy previously knew of the two aggressive dogs at the home, knocking on the door and stepping away from the door to avoid a confrontation.

The dog owner was not charged.

The Post Falls Police Department was requested to complete an investigation into what happened. The sheriff’s office is also investigating.
