EDINBURGH — Columbus North didn’t capture the team title, but did win the individual medalist honors in the Conference Indiana girls golf championship Monday at Timbergate.
Erin Hopkins fired a 2-over 74 to earn medalist honors for the Bull Dogs, who finished runner-up with a 361.
“My game was really solid all day. I feel like my bad holes, I recovered really well from them, which helped me a lot in the end,” Hopkins said. “It was a really solid day.”
Terre Haute South won the team title with a 339. Southport was third with a 362, and Bloomington South was fourth with a 366.
Hopkins edged out Terre Haute South’s Avery Cassell and Bloomington South’s Melanie Southern, who both finished with 75.
“I’m very proud of (Hopkins),” North coach Scott Seavers said. “She got off to a little bit of a slow start. She was 3-over at one point on the first nine, and then she got on a par streak and made a birdie and was very resilient today. I’m proud of her for that.”
Lindsey Hartwell
The Bull Dogs put a second golfer on the All-Conference team. Lindsey Hartwell finished with an 80.
“It wasn’t my personal best, but honestly, I’m happy with how I played today,” Hartwell said. “I wish I could have finished a little better, but other than that, I was happy with how I played.”
“She’s improved so much over the last year and two years, and she’s made herself into a really good golfer,” Seavers added. “I’m proud of her, and 80 is great, and she’s even capable of getting better than that.”
Kara Buntin carded a 100, Harper Andresen shot 107 and Ana Pavlov finished with a 117.
The Bull Dogs will have one final tuneup match when they host Columbus East at Harrison Lake Country Club Tuesday before the sectional on Sept. 23 at Cascades Golf Course in Bloomington.
North will be in the mix of contenders in the sectional round, but Martinsville is considered the favorite.
“I still feel like we have some strokes to improve on,” Seavers said. “Harper’s best score was today, so we’re going to continue to work and do what we do and try to get better for the sectional next week.”
