Pima Animal Care at record capacity after impounding dozens of dogs

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Pima Animal Care Center now sits at a record high capacity following the seizure of 88 dogs.

PACC’s Animal Protection Services team received a call from the Tucson Police Department late Saturday, September 14, regarding a home that was being condemned.

PACC officers found a large number of small terrier and Dachshund-type dogs at the property, including several litters of puppies. The majority of the dogs have been surrendered by the owner and will be available for adoption or foster from PACC once they have been medically and behaviorally evaluated.

With a record high capacity of 628 dogs, PACC is in immediate need of fosters and adopters.

“Having 600 plus dogs in our shelter is a huge stress on our resources, staff, and volunteers,” said Monica Dangler, PACC’s director. “We need our community’s immediate help in fostering, adopting, and rescue transfers to keep our Pima County dogs safe, healthy, and happy.”

Dogs and puppies are currently free to adopt at PACC, and all pets adopted from PACC are microchipped, spayed or neutered, and given age-appropriate vaccines. Foster parents who can take a pet for a minimum of two weeks are also greatly needed, particularly for large dogs. PACC can provide supplies for fosters based on what donations are on hand.

For those who cannot foster or adopt, donations to PACC’s nonprofit partner, Friends of Pima Animal Care Center, in support of their life-saving work on behalf of PACC pets, are welcomed. In addition, PACC leadership encourages pet owners to register lost and found pets on Petco Love Lost to help them get home in the event they’re lost

PACC is located at 4000 N. Silverbell Road and is open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from noon to 7 p.m., on Wednesday from 1:30 – to 7 p.m., and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. To learn more about available PACC pets and services, please go to pima.gov/animalcare.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
