LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – For the past decade, Lincoln’s MoMo Pizzeria and Ristorante has dedicated an event to help fund animal rescue efforts around Nebraska.
Over the years, the ‘Pooches on the Patio’ event has developed into an annual effort. This year, proceeds from the free family event will be donated to the Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue.
The rescue has been working with animal shelters in Lincoln by finding loving homes for dogs that are at risk of being euthanized since 2010. Karl Skinner, the director at the rescue, said so far the nonprofit has given homes to over 800 dogs in Nebraska and has a 97% adoption success rate.
Skinner explained that the organization and others like it can keep running through corporate and local business sponsors like MoMo.
“It just is so meaningful,” Skinner said. “It gives us a chance to be in front of people that maybe haven’t heard of us before so we can get more dogs adopted.”
He said they are in dire need of fosters right now, especially for large breed dogs that often have a hard time finding forever homes.
“The shelters have been extremely crowded and full in the last year or two,” Skinner said. “Things have been extremely critical in pet rescue.”
There will be more information on available dogs and how you can help at the ‘Pooches on the Patio’ event Sunday, Sept. 22.
The festivities will begin at noon. People can enjoy activities from a selection of vendors like Picasso Paw Prints, Kid Zone face painting, Dog Tattoos and Nail Trims and even a silent auction.
