October is creeping up on us, meaning Halloween is around the corner, and while some people are already getting into the spooky spirit, one Labrador has left the internet in hysterics with his reaction to the new decor.
TikTok user @thicclabs shared a clip showing the black Labrador’s reaction to the Halloween decoration. When he entered the room, the dog was confronted by the sight of a plastic black dog wearing a skeleton costume, and needless to say, he was not keen.
The Labrador’s reaction to his plastic counterpart has delighted internet users, generating more than 625,300 views and more than 54,100 likes on TikTok in a few days.
Even though the plastic decoration looked like him, the dog couldn’t stop barking at it and seemed afraid to get too close. Text layered over the clip said, “Not a fan of the Home Depot glow in the dark lab,” while the caption added, “Excuse me I am the only black lab allowed.”
Newsweek contacted @thicclabs via TikTok for comment. We could not verify the details of the case.
After daring to approach the Halloween dog, the Labrador stared at it intensely before barking repeatedly. After a while, the owner decided to see what would happen if the skeleton moved, and they started to carry the decoration around the house—prompting their pet to run away.
Though it’s still September, many people are already deep into the Halloween spirit. A poll by YouGov found that 23 percent of Americans would go as far as saying Halloween is one of their favorite holidays. Younger people were more likely to prefer Halloween above other celebrations, with 30 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds calling it one of their favorites.
The poll also showed that 75 percent of Americans preferred Christmas to Halloween, and 65 percent preferred Thanksgiving. However, 47 percent of respondents chose Halloween over Valentine’s Day.
Most Americans, 63 percent, were happy to give out candy on Halloween to trick-or-treaters who stopped by. But 21 percent of people would pretend not to be home instead.
While the Labrador’s owners have got spooky season underway, the pup still has a long way to go before he’s ready for it.
His owners have shared videos of the Labrador gradually growing accustomed to the newest addition to their home, so maybe he’ll accept it by October 31.
In the comments section of the viral clip, social media users lauded the dog’s behavior toward the decoration, while many dog owners shared similar experiences.
One viewer said, “You can’t fool him, he knows a sleeper agent when he sees one.”
Another TikTok user wrote, “There’s only room in this house for one goodest boy, and that’s me.”
“Dog says, take that back to Home Depot NOW,” another added.
A commenter wrote: “My black lab reacted the same way with ours! It’s currently in the coat closet lol.”
