Pedestrian injured after loose dogs cause crash, police say

A pedestrian was injured in a crash after police said a pack of loose dogs caused a motorist to lose control of their vehicle in Addison County.Vermont State Police said 54-year-old Timothy Lester was walking along the side of Lake Dunmore Road in Leicester around 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday when he was hit by a driver heading in the opposite direction.An investigation determined that the driver, who police said was traveling at a reasonable speed, swerved out of his lane when multiple loose dogs from a nearby home ran into the roadway in front of his vehicle. As the driver swerved to avoid the dogs, he struck Lester, according to police. Lester was transported by helicopter to the University of Vermont Medical Center and is currently in stable condition.Police said that due to Lester not wearing any reflective clothing, the dark conditions on the roadway and the loose dogs, the driver is not facing any charges for the incident and was not found to be in violation of any laws.The town of Leicester was notified of the uncontrolled dogs, police said.
