North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD) is asking residents to keep their dogs on a leash at parks and trails throughout the district for the safety of people, dogs and wildlife.
Responding to community concerns about an increase in reports of off-leash dogs at local parks, NCPRD has launched a new “Leash Up North Clackamas” campaign, to encourage dog owners to keep their pets on a leash in these public spaces to protect people, pets, and wildlife.
Leashing up your dog can make a big difference in shared community spaces by:
- Allowing people of all ages who are fearful of dogs to feel safe
- Preventing bites and fights; not all dogs can be friends
- Protecting local wildlife and sensitive habitats
In addition to making parks and trails more welcoming for all, it is important to remember that keeping dogs on a leash in parks is the law (Ordinance No. 07-2004). Any animal brought into a park area is required to be on a leash, except in the off-leash dog area in North Clackamas Park. Violating the code could result in a citation or removal from the park. If you see an unleashed dog, please call 503-655-8211 to contact local law enforcement.
