Rimowa, the luxury suitcase label, is moving into handbags, but very much sticking to its roots with the design. The brand has today announced that it is launched The Original Bag, a tiny version of its iconic aluminium suitcase that can be carried with its top handle or worn as a cross-body bag.
The design mimics the rest of the Original collection, which features compact, cabin and trunk-sized suitcases, all made in a distinctive lightweight aluminium with a hard shell. The Original Bag is a minimised version of this style, crafted in the same material and featuring a leather handle and an organised and roomy compartment with a zipped pocket and slots to store credit cards.
“The release of the Rimowa Original Bag marks a new chapter in our history,” says CEO Hugues Bonnet-Masimbert. “We envision this bag to become an indispensable companion across a spectrum of journeys and personalities. Bringing this vision to life was an ambitious technical challenge, and we’re thrilled with the result: a versatile bag that epitomises the disruptive innovation and meticulous craftsmanship Rimowa is known for.”
The bag is designed to be unisex – and has been launched with a campaign shot by filmmaker Jordan Hemingway and photographers Louise and Maria Thornfeldt starring supermodel Liu Wen, rapper Central Cee, journalist and creative director IB Kamara, and photographer Larissa Hofmann.
The Original Bag comes in black and silver, and retails for £1,590. Shop it here.
