CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – A Conway woman is out on bond after being accused of mistreating dogs.
Conway police responded around 5 p.m. on May 1 to a home on Singleton Street for a welfare check on two dogs.
A realtor had called the police after she had been at the home earlier in the day, telling police the people living there were in the middle of an eviction and would be out soon.
At the home, an officer saw two Pit Bull mixes, one of which was a puppy, both “severely malnourished and emaciated,” a police report states.
The adult Pit Bull mix was also seen eating the carcass of a dead adult Pit Bull mix, the police report states.
Police didn’t make contact with the suspect, identified as 54-year-old Martina Farewell, that day.
However, they did take the two dogs into custody because of the “exigent circumstance.” The dogs were ultimately taken to the Horry County Animal Care Center.

Police arrested Farewell and booked her on three counts of ill-treatment of animals Friday.
She posted a $15,000 bond and was released from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center the next day.
