BUCKSPORT, Maine (WABI) – A Bucksport woman is facing several charges for mistreating dogs at her rescue facility.
Ellisha Krutuleski, 44, is the owner and operator of Coastal Dreams Rescue and Sanctuary on Millvale Road in Bucksport.
She’s currently under investigation for animal cruelty.
A court complaint shows Krutuleski is facing six felony charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and one misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animals.
Court documents show authorities were called to the sanctuary on July 30 and found animal remains as well as 27 dogs that were living in poor conditions.
An agent with the Animal Welfare Program returned the following day to search the property further.
He reported seizing six sets of dog remains, which were found in trash bags and crates.
Court documents also reveal Krutuleski was away from the property that day after going to the hospital with an undisclosed illness.
A spokesperson with the Animal Welfare Program say all the dogs have been placed in shelters and rescues and are doing well.
He says the dogs have cleared the legal holding period or will soon clear it and may be available for adoption.
TV5 has reached out to Krutuleski for comment but she has not returned our call.
It does not appear Krutuleski has been taken into custody. At last check, she had not been booked into the Hancock County Jail.
Jim Britt, a spokesperson for Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Animal Welfare Program, provided this statement:
On July 30, a Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Animal Welfare Program (AWP) district humane agent relocated 27 dogs from the Coastal Dreams Rescue and Sanctuary in Bucksport and placed them with shelters and rescues. All the dogs are doing well. The dogs have cleared the legal holding period or will soon clear it and may be available for adoption. Because this matter is under investigation, AWP cannot provide personal or private information about the parties involved or any further information. AWP takes reports of animal cruelty and abuse very seriously and pursues all legal options to prosecute those accused of such crimes.
