Vice President Kamala Harris’s new running mate, Gov. Tim Walz is already getting buzz on social media — or at least his dog is.
Back on October 25, 2023 Walz posted on X, the former Twitter, a family text message received about his dog locking himself in their bedroom.
It read “Scout locked himself in our bedroom somehow. There is no key etc. I am going to head home in a little bit.”
The post went on “They are going to have to try to go through a window. They are getting ladders.” Attached to the post was a picture update of a rescue team with a ladder against the house and then another picture of the dog, that said “Free at last!”
We Rate Dogs on Tuesday reposted the exchange as a “throwback” to the incident on Instagram and Facebook, causing a stir for the new candidate on his big day.
Harris announced Walz as her running mate for the 2024 election early Tuesday morning.
The post touched a nerve, with supporters of Walz — and dog lovers commenting on the post. Detractors, too, took to the comments section, arguing We Rate Dogs is wading into politics.
In response to one comment urging the popular account to “stick to dogs,” We Rate dogs replied, “there’s literally a dog in this post.”
Who is Scout Walz?
Scout is a black lab mix that the Walz family adopted in 2019, making good on a promise Walz made to his son, Gus, during his gubernatorial campaign, according to published reports at the time.
The Walz family adopted Scout after the pup was found abandoned in a box in Oklahoma and taken in by a rescue organization.
Thousands of reactions and comments continue to pour in, with some asking for a shirt with his picture or calling him “Vice Dog.” Some commented having met the dog and praising the owner.
