According to the ‘Daily Mail’, a dog named ‘Nuggi’ has been found in the home of a woman in the New Zealand city of Auckland in a deplorable state. It was the police who entered the home, executing a search warrant, where they found the animal obese and prostrate on the floor. It was in such poor condition that the canine could not even walk.
According to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of New Zealand, which made the complaint to the police, the dog was unable to move even 10 meters at a time. A circumstance that was verified since the four-legged dog stopped up to three times in order to catch his breath in the short distance from the door of his house to the police officers’ vehicle.
“His legs seemed to collapse under the weight of his massive body,” said an SPCA spokesperson. In fact, in the statement of a veterinarian from the same organization his weight was like that of a human being, ‘Nuggi’ weighed 53.7 kg.
After several weeks of care, the animal has managed to lose nine kilos.
The owner pleaded guilty in Manukau District Court to failing to meet the dog’s physical, health and behavioral needs, and was ordered to pay reparations of $1,104 and banned from owning dogs for 12 months and imprisoned for two months.
