Boise, Idaho (CBS2) – The Idaho Humane Society is joining other shelters to help find homes for 50 dogs rescued from a home in California. 30 dogs arrived in Boise on Friday.
They came from a shelter in Riverside, California. That shelter has faced three separate hoarding cases in the Coachella Valley. 50 dogs were found in one of the homes. There were 20 dogs in another home.
Since January 1st, The Idaho Humane Society says 600 dogs have been transferred to its facilities from rescues and shelters. The goal is to prevent unnecessary euthanasia.
In a news release sent to CBS2, Public Information Officer Kristine Schellhaas said, “we are happy we could assist in these dogs’ journey from Riverside to new adoptive homes here in the Treasure Valley.”
Wings of Rescue pilot and CEO Ric Browde was at the airport on Friday to see the pets take off, but longtime volunteers Kale and Anji Garcia handled the flying this time. The couple is responsible for sending more than 2,000 pets to forever destinations.
“Our success transporting pets to new homes has everything to do with terrific partners on the ground,” said Ric Browde, CEO of Wings of Rescue. That the kind team at Idaho Humane Society stepped up to take some of the dogs on this flight is an indication of the best in shelter cooperation. We know that these dogs will end up getting great homes, that there is open kennel space for them and that no local pets will be displaced by their arrival — a true win-win for everyone involved.”
Final destinations include the Utah Humane Society, the Idaho Humane Society here in Boise, and Cache Humane Society.
The Idaho Humane Society is accepting donations. They can also be made directly at 1300 S Bird Street, Boise, Idaho 83709.
