Who couldn’t love a dog like Stanley? With his spotted coat and giant eyes, he’s the most handsome boy and would make an incredible pet. Somehow the dog has become the Human Society of Broward County’s “most overlooked dog.” And now the Florida shelter is sharing Stanley’s story with the hope that someone will take the little guy home.

Stanley isn’t just a dog, he’s “half dog, half cow and 100 percent handsome pants,” the shelter joked.

Broward Humane posted some footage of the American Bulldog mix in his kennel on Instagram and to us it seems impossible that he hasn’t been snapped right up.

Stanley is a solid boy at 60 lbs. and gets very excited for his walks,” they explained in the caption. “He is very curious and will sniff everything on his walks!”

Other fun Stanley facts: the good boy knows how to sit for treats, he’s almost 2 years old, and he was found as a stray. Be forewarned, Stanley does suffer from heartworm disease, but he is receiving treatment for it and can continue to receive treatment free of charge from the Humane Broward clinic.

No one in the comments section could believe that Stanley hadn’t been adopted. “How could precious Stanley be overlooked???? He is going to be someone’s personal Chick-fil-a mascot and he’s precious!!” exclaimed one commenter. “He looks super cute – very special! Hope he gets seen and saved by someone great,” someone else added. “Gosh, he is just absolutely stunning,” a third commenter gushed.

Heartworm Disease in Dogs

Heartworm disease can happen to any dog, but it’s a disease that’s not easily spread. Dogs usually pick up the virus through mosquitos, making warm, wet months a time when dogs might be more susceptible.

It might take years for dogs to show clinical signs of heartworms, although it’s rare in young dogs under a year old. The larvae, known as microfilariae, can take anywhere from five to seven months to mature into adult heartworms. Sadly at that point, the disease has already advanced.

The disease can be treated and cured. But the best offense is definitely a good defense. Make sure your dog is taking a heartworm prevention medication and try to keep your pup away from areas with a high mosquito population.

Let’s face it, heartworm disease is no fun. But it does happen to dogs from time to time and shouldn’t be a reason not to bring home a pet.
