There are no adoption fees for large-breed dogs 50 pounds and over.
PHOENIX — The Arizona Humane Society has announced that adoption fees are waived for all large-breed dogs 50 pounds and over.
This is an excellent opportunity to bring home a loving, loyal companion and help alleviate overcrowding at Arizona Humane Society shelters in the Valley, AHS said in a news release.
The state’s largest animal rescue agency continues to struggle with capacity numbers and said large-breed dogs face the longest stay at shelters compared to smaller canine residents. The AHS has over thirty adoptable large-breed dogs; a dozen of which have been at the shelter for over a month.
The organization said one of its most recent canine rescues involved a hoarding situation in which a dozen dogs were found on a property.
Ernie, a tan and black Sharpei mix, and Fester, a beige Sharpei mix, were rescued from the property and treated at the shelter’s trauma hospital, and now these two are available for adoption.
They have been waiting for permanent homes at the shelter for nearly two months, AHS said.
AHS has responded to over 10,000 requests for animal assistance from Valley residents this year and, in return, asks residents who can adopt to do so.
