FARGO — With under a week to go, Homeward Animal Shelter is scrambling to find a place for 11 dogs who, without help, will be euthanized on Monday, July 29.
“This morning, we received a desperate plea for help from our friends at
Homeward wrote on Facebook. “Our hearts dropped.”
Homeward doesn’t have room in their building to give all these animals sanctuary so they are urgently looking for people who are willing to adopt or foster these canines.
“These dogs are counting on us to save them, but we can’t do it alone,” Homeward wrote. “We know with your help, we can save their lives.”
Those unable to open their homes to help can donate at

All 11 of these dogs come from the Spirit Lake Reservation in central North Dakota.
They are all running out of time in the pound, which only holds animals for a certain amount of time before euthanizing them to make space for the next animal that needs shelter.
“We know these dogs deserve the chance to find homes,” Homeward wrote. “If you’ve ever had the chance to meet, or perhaps lucky enough to foster or adopt a reservation dog, you know there’s just something special about them.”
Each of these 11 dogs enjoys spending time with humans and other dogs, Homeward said. It’s currently unknown how many get along with cats.

“There are hundreds of dogs euthanized across the nation each day, and we can’t possibly save them all,” Homeward wrote. “But we sure are going to try and save the ones that are right here in our area!”
