4 Richland County dogs rescued from ‘house of horrors’ still at shelter 1 year later

MANSFIELD, Ohio (WOIO) – A dozen dogs were rescued from what the Humane Society of Richland County called a “house of horrors” one year ago, and four of them are still at the shelter hoping to be adopted.

Agents from the Humane Society of Richland County were called to an “atrocious situation” on Danwood Drive in July 2023, according to HSRC.

HSRC said the agents found 12 dogs “being starved in a condemned home – covered in fleas and living in squalor. Literally fighting for food.”

Volunteers tirelessly brought the “extremely emaciated” dogs back to health, while also working on issues such as “food aggression, lack of potty training, little socialization,” HSRC shared.

Despite the conditions they were brought up in, HSRC called them “all really sweet dogs.”

“Thank GOD we are a no kill shelter because we have cared for and loved these dogs for the last year,” HSRC stated. “We have fixed them, socialized them, and gotten them healthy. But this is NOT home.”

The four dogs still patiently waiting to find their “fur-ever” home are named Eden, Kiki, Sevyn, and Trip.

“The shelter humans are less patient because we know someone, somewhere is missing out on these special babies,” HSRC stated. “A year is just too long…”

Here are the links and descriptions for Eden, Kiki, Sevyn, and Trip from the Humane Society of Richland County:

“While the other 8 dogs were confined to a filthy home, Eden and her 3 puppies were confined in the back yard. They did have some shade, but lived out there 24 hours a day where Eden was bred over and over again. Eden wasn’t as skinny as the rest of them, but she definitely had battles of her own with skin and socialization issues. This sweet girl has come around full swing and is finally healthy enough to find her forever home.

Eden is a beautiful 3 year old terrier mix. She is a bit shy at first, but is making great progress with meeting new people. Once she gets comfortable, she is the sweetest girl and absolutely loves people and belly rubs. She is obsessed with treats, so that should make teaching her basic skills a breeze. Eden seems like she may do well with other friendly dogs, especially males. We do require meet and greets with other dogs in the home prior to adoption. This sweet girl is long overdue for the good life.”

“Kiki was by far one of the worst…

Kiki is a gorgeous 1 year old terrier mix. This sweetie has tons of energy, and absolutely loves to run and play. She is very smart, and is super food motivated. Kiki is so fun, and will be sure to bring you endless entertainment. Because of the conditions Kiki came from, she will need to be the only dog in the home. This sweetheart has more than enough love to give, so we promise she is MORE than worth it.”

“Sevyn is a 3 year old terrier mix. He is such a love bug. He loves toys, treats, and has lots of energy. Sevyn does need to learn some manners, but he is extremely food motivated so training him should be fairly easy. Because of the conditions Sevyn lived in, Sevyn does not like other dogs. We can’t blame him considering another dog meant more competition for food. For this reason, Sevyn will need to be the only pet. This sweet boy has more than enough love to spread around a home, so we have no doubt his future home will never be lacking love and entertainment.”

“Trip was by far the worst off with injuries, as he had deep cuts and wounds all over his face and body. No doubt he was getting beat up on the worst…

Trip is an adorable 1 year old terrier mix. He is shy at first, and seems like he will need a little time to be comfortable with his new people. He is very very sweet, and loves cuddles, kisses, treats, and toys. Trip does not like other dogs, and you can’t blame him with how bad the others in the house bullied him. Because of the conditions Trip lived in, he will need to be an only pet. This sweet boy has more than enough love to spread around a home, so we promise he is worth it.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
