Shelter officials caution pet owners from leaving dogs in cars during the summer

Animal control officials tell News 5 that a woman in Johnson City is expected to be charged with animal cruelty after she left her German Shepherd in the car and it died.

With temperatures reaching into the 90s this summer–local shelters are reminding dog owners to be extra careful while leaving dogs in the car.

They recommend leaving your dog at home during a hot summer’s day but if you need to take your pet with you–leave the ac running especially if you’re dog has a lot of fur.

Shelter leaders explain how leaving your dog in the car could cost it its life.

Most people don’t realize that it only takes 15 minutes for a dog to possibly have a heat stroke in a car it heats up so quickly if the outside temperature is 75 degrees in 10 minutes the inside of that car can be 100 degrees, said Johnson City and Washington County Animal Shelter Executive Director Tammy Davis.

They also advise bringing cool water for your dog to drink if they’re overheated.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
