Dog relay teams compete in Bonham for weekend tournament

BONHAM, Texas (KXII) – Flyball dog relay teams from all over Texas and Oklahoma came to compete at the multipurpose complex in Bonham this weekend.

“You’re going to have two teams of dogs, four dogs in each lane. They go down, get to that box, at the end, there’s a spring-loaded box that pops out a tennis ball… they come back, next dog goes, the first team that runs four dogs successfully wins the race,” said Karen Erz, captain of her team.

Flyball is a sport that’s been around since the 1960s. It’s similar to drag racing, but for pups.

“We tend to put dogs that run together the fastest dogs together, and then you also need a height dog. You need a small dog that sits the height of the jumps, the jumps can be anywhere between six inches and 12 inches,” Erz said.

Giving every pup a chance to run!

“It’s for anybody, and any kind of dog can do. We see rescue dogs, we see dogs that have been purchased,” said the host of the tournament, Andrea McManus.

“There’s no requirement to be a purebred… a 10-second dog can have as much fun and be as successful as a three-and-a-half-second dog,” said Erz.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
