Four Akron pitchers combined on a one-hitter, and Angel Genao’s RBI double in the fifth inning was enough to lift the RubberDucks to a 1-0 victory Tuesday night over the Portland Sea Dogs in an Eastern League game that was delayed for nearly two hours because of rain at Hadlock Field.
Connelly Early (5-1) lost for the first time this season despite giving up just five hits over six innings. He struck out eight, didn’t issue a walk, and lowered his earned-run average to 2.17.
Yovanni Cruz followed with two hitless innings, and Zach Bryant pitched a perfect ninth.
Akron’s Dylan DeLucia struck out eight and held Portland without a hit through five innings. Jack Leftwich kept the no-hitter intact in the sixth, but Ronald Rosario hit a two-out single to right in the seventh off Steven Perez.
