Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have shut down two stores at Saigon Square for selling fake Hermes, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci products priced from as little as $6, as part of a crackdown on counterfeit goods.
During a raid last week, they found that a shop belonging to Ngo Thi Hang Nga was selling handbags and wallets falsely labeled as Hermes, Chanel, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton with prices of VND150,000–380,000 (US$6–15).
They also found Vo Thi Kieu Oanh selling shirts with Lacoste, Boss and Polo logos starting at VND100,000.
At the end of last month inspectors had found at Saigon Square thousands of counterfeit handbags, wallets, watches, and eyewear. Founded in 2000, Saigon Square has earned a reputation as a “shopping paradise” popular with both locals and tourists for its broad selection of merchandise.

Some vendors attempted to shutter their stalls to evade the raiding officials.
“Authorities will continue to monitor hotspots for counterfeit goods, products of unknown origin, and intellectual property violations,” according to the Domestic Market Management and Development Bureau.
The bureau is encouraging vendors to transition to legitimate business practices to create a “trustworthy and civilized” shopping environment.
The recent campaign follows Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s orders to tackle smuggling, commercial fraud and counterfeit goods in the country.
This year market authorities have uncovered over 34,000 violations and imposed fines of over VND4.89 trillion, prosecuting violators in 1,400 cases.
