WASHINGTON TWP., Ohio (WTVG) – Dozens of dogs are in poor health and six puppies were found dead in a Henry County house, leading to criminal charges against the homeowner.
80 dogs were removed from a house on Township Road T3 in Henry County on Friday, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. Six puppies were found dead at the home as well. The investigation led authorities to arrest the homeowner, Marty Eis, 64, for Cruelty to Companion Animals. Investigators say additional charges are pending.
Officials executed a search warrant at the home on June 6. The sheriff’s office had received a report of many dogs in poor health, and that several puppies had contracted parvo, a highly contagious virus that mainly affects dogs and wolves.
“The whole house was converted to a makeshift kennel to secure the dogs,” a statement from the sheriff’s office read. “Multiple wire dog crates were found stacked in the rooms. There was a strong odor of fecal matter and urine in the house, as the floors and cages were in soiled wood chips.”
Investigators described the living conditions as unsanitary and dangerous.
The dogs who were rescued were evaluated by a veterinarian and are now in the care of the Henry County Humane Society and rescue groups. Numerous organizations were involved in the rescue effort.
Records say Eis was booked into the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, but his mugshot was not immediately available. Check back for updates as we learn more.
