Man found dead in car with numerous ‘aggressive dogs’ in Monroe County; police investigating

At this time, police said no foul play is suspected, and the coroner’s investigation remains ongoing.

MONROE COUNTY, Ind. — Police are investigating after a person was found dead in their car in a Walmart parking lot Sunday morning.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Walmart parking lot, located on the 3500 block of West State Road 45, on June 1 around noon after a 911 call reporting an unresponsive person inside a car.

Callers also reported to police that the car hit a concrete light pole base and that “numerous aggressive dogs” were inside the car.

When police arrived on scene, they said they found a person who was dead and saw eight dogs in the car that were acting aggressively and preventing them from getting to the victim.

Police said firefighters tried to get to the victim and, in doing so, multiple dogs escaped and start charging emergency personnel and bystanders.

Unfortunately, one firefighter and one bystander were bitten. They received minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Animal Management Division responded and were able to capture five of the dogs and take them to the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter. Police said three more dogs were captured later that same day.

Police said they discovered the victim had been living out of the vehicle and was repeatedly seen parked on the west side of Walmart.

Detectives with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Monroe County Coroner’s Office are investigating the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.

According to surveillance video from the parking lot, police said the victim’s car hit a light pole around 8:30 a.m. Sunday. However, the crash wasn’t reported until nearly four hours later, when a citizen called the Monroe County Central Dispatch.

Police said the victim might’ve suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.

At this time, police said no foul play is suspected, and the coroner’s investigation remains ongoing.

Police said they believe all of the dogs are accounted for, but the exact number of dogs that were in the car is unclear. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Animal Management Division will be patrolling the area over the next few days to make sure any remaining dogs are captured.

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
