Local dog park closes a week after opening amid safety concerns after dog attack

RAYLAND, OHIO (WTRF) — A local dog park is now closed after a tragedy struck just one week after it opened.

To honor his late sister who was one of the biggest dog lovers, Frank Rico Jr. got together with the village of Rayland to build the YTR Bark Park in hopes of living out his sister’s legacy.

Just a week after opening the park, Frank was walking his two dogs outside the fencing at the park when a large Pitbull escaped under the fencing from the inside and attacked one of his dogs who later died.

He says when the fence was installed by Black Bear Fence Company, the bottom of it was extremely loose to the point where dogs could get under it.

He says that right now his main concern is safety and finding a way to open the park back up.

”When you’re putting up a dog fence, even if it is a backyard fence, you’re putting it up and you want safety first. I mean, I’m just torn up by this. I just never want it to happen again and this way, it’s going to happen again.”

A representative from the Black Bear Fence Company says their team installed the fence according to the contract and specifications that were discussed and signed off on in October by the Village of Rayland. According to the contract, the village was responsible for adding mulch and dirt under the fence in order to secure it.

Our team will continue following this story closely so be sure to stay tuned to 7News and WTRF.com for any updates.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
