The dog was found in the unlikeliest of places.
HOUSTON — A southeast Houston man was reunited with his dog that was missing for ten days, ending up in the unlikeliest of places.
Covic, a 5-year-old French bulldog, went missing on May 14 and days went by without any leads. That’s until the family got a call from a woman saying she bought the dog, not knowing it was missing.
“He’s just like a chill, laid back kind of dog,” Luc Nguyen said.
Luc Nguyen’s brother, Loi, is Covic’s owner. The brothers said on May 14, they got distracted opening up the garage door and Covic ran off.
“We just thought that’s it, we lost the dog forever,” Luc Nguyen said.
They believed the dog was stolen. Several fliers were posted around the neighborhood and photos were put on missing pet groups on Facebook.
Ten days later, they got a surprising phone call.
“We get a call from Chicago,” Nguyen said. “She said, ‘Is this your dog? This might be your dog. I can FaceTime and show you. Is this your dog? And we have the dog. That’s him,” Luc Nguyen said.
On an unfamiliar line, Loi Nguyen saw a familiar face.
“I don’t know how he got there, but I know exactly that’s him, and I was really happy to see he’s still alive and he’s fine,” Loi Nguyen said.
The woman told Nguyen she saw the Facebook posts about the missing dog. She claims she apparently bought the dog at Chicago Midway Airport, not knowing it was missing.
That’s where Nguyen flew and picked up Covic. He rented a car and drove back to Houston with his four-legged family member.
The $1,000 reward they offered for Covic’s return was paid in full, but the reunion with the family was priceless.
Nguyen says there was two things they learned from the ordeal.
“Have faith and pray, because prayer [does] work, and also be more cautious,” Loi Nguyen said.
The Nugey brothers said they plan to get Covic microchipped now that he’s back home.
