Fatal pedestrian crash in McMinnville kills 46-year-old woman and dog

Audra Ackerman, 46, died along with her dog Friday evening after being struck by a Ford F250 at a McMinnville intersection.

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. — A 46-year-old McMinnville woman and her dog were killed Friday evening when they were struck by a pickup truck while crossing a street, according to the McMinnville Police Department (MPD).

On May 24, at 5:34 p.m., McMinnville police and McMinnville Fire District responded to a motor vehicle accident where a pedestrian was hit at the intersection of Southwest Old Sheridan Road and Southwest Cypress Lane in McMinnville, the MPD said.

The pedestrian, identified as 46-year-old Audra Ackerman of McMinnville, was dead at the scene. The driver of the white Ford F250 (pulling a landscaping trailer), identified as 68-year-old Jose Huerta of McMinnville, stayed on scene and was cooperative with investigators.

Ackerman was reportedly walking her dog, crossing the road northbound at this location, when she and her dog were hit, killing both, according to the McMinnville Police Department. Huerta’s car was westbound on Cypress Lane, and he and his two passengers were not injured.

“Notifications were made to Ackerman’s family, and our condolences go out to her family, and everyone impacted by this incident,” the McMinnville Police Department said.

The roadway was closed for the investigation for approximately three hours, the McMinnville police said. There is no indication that intoxicants or excess vehicle speed were contributing factors in this crash. Police said the crash appeared to be purely accidental.

“With summer approaching, this is an unfortunate opportunity to remind community members that there will be an increase in pedestrian traffic, and pedestrians should always take extra care when crossing streets,” the MPD said. “Drivers should also be conscious of how sun glare can make it difficult to see pedestrians, especially when driving in the evening hours.”

McMinnville police said the McMinnville Fire District, Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, and Newberg-Dundee Police assisted in this incident.

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
